40 Years Of Retail Business Geluti, Indomaret Boss: I'm Still Confused

JAKARTA - President Director of PT Indomarco Prismatama Sinarman Jonatan admitted that it is not easy to run a retail business. Even though he has been in the retail world for 40 years, he said he is still confused about running the business.

In fact, Sinarman admitted that there were many questions that he did not understand the answer.

"My friends and I have been in the retail industry for about 40 years, but I'm still confused about the retail industry, there are still many questions that I don't understand either," he said at the signing of the Indomaret memorandum of understanding with GP Ansor, written Wednesday, July 23.

Sinarman said the retail industry could experience rapid and dynamic changes. Therefore, he sees that sometimes it looks easy but when it is lived it turns out to be quite challenging.

"So this is something that seems easy, but it's not easy, because this retail industry can change at any time," he said.

"This retail industry is very dynamic, very uncertain because of its very complex problems, so if we don't change, we will be left behind," he continued.

Currently, said Sinarman, there are still many retailers who have not transformed following the existing developments. According to him, although this industry feels very attractive, there are many maneuvers that must also be carried out so that the business remains.

The current retail industry is also a lot, the past retail industry, it doesn't follow future developments, so this understanding that we should understand together, that this is not a very big problem, but this is a problem that must be fought for continuously. It looks very interesting, but a lot to do," he said.

In addition, Sinarman welcomed the partnership cooperation with GP Ansor which was bridged by the Ministry of Trade. He said this collaboration requires mutual trust and good communication with each other.

"We are preparing a big program for our future, but we don't have to worry about facing all forms of difficulties and challenges. We have to be ready to fight, because this is easy to tell but it will have a long tail for its implementation. So this is a challenge for us together," he concluded.
