Preventing Fatal Accidents in High-Risk Work Areas, Dräger Launches X-am 2600 and SCBA PSS 3000E for Real Worker Protection

JAKARTA - Workplace safety remains a top concern across various industrial sectors, especially when challenges arise not only from human error but also from high-risk work environments. According to data from Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower, 462,241 workplace accidents were recorded from January to December 20241. This figure is a powerful reminder that Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) remains a significant challenge in Indonesia’s industrial sector.

The causes of workplace accidents are often due to internal factors, such as non-compliance with safety procedures, inadequate training and education, unfit working conditions, and the use of unsafe equipment. However, the challenges do not stop there. External factors such as exposure to hazardous gases, oxygen deficiency, extreme temperatures, or toxic particles—particularly in confined spaces—are also common causes of workplace accidents. These situations require a comprehensive approach. including operational planning, the right protective gear, and reliable detection systems.

In line with its mission to protect workers in hazardous environments, Dräger Indonesia introduces two innovative solutions: the X-am 2600 multi-gas detector and the SCBA PSS 3000E (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus), designed to safeguard workers against toxic gas exposure and oxygen deficiency.

The launch took place during a workshop titled “Managing Risks: Confined Space Entry & Health and Safety at the Workplace,” held at Dräger Indonesia's head office in Jakarta. The event also served to educate participants from various industries about the risks associated with confined spaces and the importance of comprehensive OSH awareness.

The X-am 2600 and SCBA PSS 3000E were developed to meet the industry’s demand for reliable, practical, and economical equipment without compromising the quality that has defined Dräger since 1889. These additions to Dräger’s portable equipment lineup offer solutions for a wide range of industries—from manufacturing, oil & gas, to chemical, mining, and construction.

In addition to equipment, personnel education and preparedness are equally important. According to Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) practitioner and trainer, Emanuel Eko Haryanto, many accidents in confined spaces occur due to a combination of inconsistent SOP implementation and a lack of proper supporting equipment.

“Beyond SOPs, it’s crucial to have proper equipment like gas detectors. Hazardous gases such as H₂S can appear in confined workspaces and pose serious risks of fire, explosions, or poisoning. While fixed gas detectors are commonly used, portable devices like the Dräger X-am 2600 are also essential. SCBAs are critical in low-oxygen, toxic gas, or extreme temperature environments. However, most importantly, workers must be equipped with training, simulations, and complete protective gear,” said Emanuel.

The Dräger X-am 2600 is the latest portable multi-gas detector designed to measure four key parameters in real-time: O₂, CO, H₂S, and flammable gases. Equipped with stable CatEx sensor technology, it offers extended sensor life and easy maintenance. Its compact and lightweight design makes it ideal for daily field operations.

Meanwhile, the Dräger PSS 3000E is a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) designed for extreme conditions such as confined spaces, toxic gas exposure, leaks, or low-oxygen environments. With its lightweight, ergonomic design and durable harness, it provides comfort, maximum protection, and high mobility—making it the ideal choice for emergency responders and workers in hazardous settings.

National regulations, such as Law No. 1 of 1970 on Occupational Safety, along with international standards like ISO 45001:2018, emphasize the need for systematic approaches to workplace safety. Innovations like those offered by Dräger play a critical role in bridging industrial practices with regulatory compliance.

With this launch, Dräger is not just releasing new products but also reinforcing the workplace safety ecosystem through ongoing education, training, and technical support for its industrial partners.
