PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN Natuna Regency, Riau Islands, has started flowing electricity for 24 hours non-stop on Peyangga Island, Pulau Seluan District.

Natuna Customer Service Unit (ULP) manager, Rafky Chandra in Natuna, Riau Islands, Tuesday, said electricity began to flow 24 hours this Tuesday.

"Starting today, the diesel power plant (PLTD) on Panjang Island officially operates 24 hours," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 8.

Previously, said Rafky, Pulau Panjang only received electricity supply for 14 hours, from afternoon to morning.

This is due to the limited number of PLTDs available, with only one engine unit operating.

For this reason, PLN seeks to add one new PLTD unit, which allows the electricity supply to run around the clock.

The addition of this generating unit was successfully realized thanks to the support from the Natuna Regency Government and the Riau Islands Provincial Government.

PLN Natuna recorded a total of 159 customers who enjoyed 24-hour electricity on Panjang Island.

"The 24-hour PLTD operation process went smoothly, thanks to previous trials," he said.

He explained that the newly added power plant capable is 80 kilowatts (kW), so that the total power generation capacity on Panjang Island now reaches 160 kW, because other units have the same capacity.

The 24-hour electricity supply program, he continued, aims to improve the quality of service to the community and support economic development in the regions.

Electricity that is available all the time is expected to support various community activities, ranging from household activities to small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

"The main goal of providing 24-hour electricity is to improve the quality of life of people on Panjang Island," he said.

He added that there is one village in Pulau Panjang District that has not enjoyed 24-hour electricity, this is because the island is separated from the sub-district capital.

In addition, four areas in several other sub-districts, including Sededap, Selaut, Batu Berian and Sekatung Island, have not enjoyed 24-hour electricity.

"However, the electrification ratio in Natuna is 99.99 percent," he said.
