JAKARTA - PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) continues to strengthen its commitment to preparing superior young talents through various competency development programs. For IWIP, improving the quality of human resources (HR) is the foundation to encourage the growth of industrial estates as well as participate in strengthening the national nickel downstream ecosystem.
The President Director of IWIP, Kevin He, said that the development of human resources, especially the younger generation, is one of IWIP's priorities.
"The sustainability of the nickel industry is in the hands of young people. Therefore, IWIP places the program of strengthening and developing competence as a priority so that in the future it can become a strong human being, and participates in even leading the industrialization process, both in Weda Bay and other industries in Indonesia," Kevin said in his statement, Monday, July 7.
One of IWIP's steps is through the Fresh Graduate Development Program (FGDP) which started in 2023. To date, the program has recruited 23 participants who have received technical training, leadership, and on-the-job training in the fields of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE).
Participants were also intensively guided by senior management, involved in real company projects, and received direct professional assistance in the field. All of this is designed to make human resources competent and ready to lead in the future.
Not only through job training, IWIP has also focused on supporting formal education. Since 2022, IWIP has presented Industrial Circle Scholarships for young people around industrial areas. A total of 51 students from Central Halmahera and East Halmahera have received this scholarship to take education ranging from D3 to S2. IWIP is currently preparing a similar program for 2025 as part of a sustainable effort to improve the quality of education in the industrial circle.

At the advanced level, IWIP together with the Tsingshan Group collaborated with the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) and Beijing University of Science and Technology (USTB) to organize a metallurgical Masters scholarship program. Entering the second year, this program provides opportunities for recipients to study directly at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB), as well as undergo internships in the nickel processing industry from upstream to downstream, so that participants are increasingly ready to face global challenges.
"WIP continues to strive to assist the younger generation, both in industrial areas and the surrounding community. In the near future, IWIP is also preparing the establishment of the Weda Polytechnic which is expected to absorb local young people and produce superior human resources. IWIP believes that this superior human resources will not only contribute to IWIP, but also bring benefits and progress to the area of origin and the surrounding environment," concluded Kevin He.
