Coca Cola Closes Factory In Bali, Dozens Of Employees Are LAID Off

JAKARTA - Head of the Bali Industry and Trade Office (Disperindag) Ngurah Wiryanatha said the Coca Cola beverage factory in Badung Regency, Bali, was closed due to declining sales on the island of the Gods.

"It has not been officially disbanded, only recently related to business performance, sales have decreased, but only one reason is that there are still many other causes but are not published to the public," he said in Denpasar, Friday.

It is reported that the closure of the beverage factory has an impact on the termination of employment (PHK) of 70 employees, so that the Bali Industry and Trade Office also highlighted this impact.

From the trade side, Wiryanatha saw a shift in the interest of the Balinese people in buying soft drinks.

"The results of our evaluation, the public's awareness has increased related to health, in consuming such as Coca Cola, many studies have revealed the negative impact of soft drinks," he said.

Disperindag Bali sees now the trend of consumers in Bali is more looking for healthy drinks, types of juice and mineral water, so this condition forces producers to innovate.

This also opens opportunities for producers to develop products that are in accordance with the current interests of the community, so that it should not always reduce purchasing power, resulting in the closure of production to layoffs of employees.

Wiryanatha analogized this with the policy of the Bali Provincial Government regarding the prohibition of bottled drinking water (AMDK) under 1 liter, where this policy is heavy but should be responded to with a positive solution.

Separately, the Head of the Bali Energy and Mineral Resources Agency (Disnaker) Ida Bagus Setiawan said the province was coordinating with Badung Regency.

Because, apart from layoffs, Coca Cola employees also occurred. Layoffs against 100 hotel and restaurant tourism workers in the same district.

In this case, Setiawan focused on tracing the causes and settlements between the company and employees, because employee rights must be fulfilled.

"In essence, so that the rights of this workforce should not be missed, it must be fulfilled, there is a mechanism from mediation if it is not achieved because it agrees that of course there will be further stages," he said.
