JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) inaugurated the Record Center Building and started the construction of the Archive Restoration Building, Archive Multipurpose Building, and the Integrated Record Center & Data Center Area, in Bandung, Friday, May 23.

This project is an important milestone in strengthening the management of the company's archives in an integrated and professional manner, as well as a real step to saving company and state assets.

Head of the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia Mego Pinandito in his remarks expressed his appreciation for the major transformation that has been carried out by KAI. He highlighted how overall management changes have brought KAI to become a modern institution with on-time performance which now reaches 99 percent, far beyond the past when trains are only "important to leave".

Not only superior in service, KAI is also considered successful in professional and systematic archival management, as evidenced by the achievement of a special score of 92.51 from ANRI in 2022. According to him, KAI not only stores archives, but actively takes care of the memory of companies and the nation and makes it a source of cross-generational learning.

"KAI has proven that archival management is not only about old paper, but about caring for civilization and showing the identity of responsible institutions. From the history of Staatsspoorwegen to the current digitization, everything is recorded and well managed. This is what makes KAI worthy of being a national benchmark / imitated study, even more advanced than similar practices in big countries. I hope this KAI initiative can be an inspiration for other Ministries, SOEs, and Educational Institutions throughout Indonesia," said Mego.

KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo on the same occasion said that archival management is an important foundation in maintaining the continuity of the company's history and strategic decision-making. He said that the building was not just physical infrastructure, but a symbol of KAI's seriousness in caring for the collective memory of the company that had been formed since the Staatsspoorwegen era.

This step also emphasizes KAI's position as a BUMN that prioritizes accountability, openness, and heritage of national values in every journey of its transformation.

I believe that the archives are the spirit of the sustainability of the institution. The Record Center Building and other supporting facilities we present as a form of KAI's responsibility to care for archives and documents, respect history, and accelerate data-based decision-making. Hopefully, this effort can become a benchmark/study to imitate national archives and strengthen public trust in modern, transparent, and sustainable corporate governance," said Didiek.

On a separate occasion, KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba emphasized that this development is part of the company's big strategy in strengthening the governance of data and archival-based companies.

We recognize that archives are not just past documents, but future values-saving instruments, assets, and state legitimacy. This is a strategic legacy that must be managed with precision," Anne said.
