The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) noted that the four-wheeled motor vehicle industry has succeeded in producing 1.19 million units of vehicles throughout 2024.
Total sales reached 865,000 units, while Completionly Built Up (CBU) exports or complete vehicles amounted to 472,000 units.
As for the first quarter of 2025, production performance was 288,000 units, sales reached 205,000 units and exports of CBU 110,000 units and imports of 11 units.
Then in terms of investment, investment in the four-wheeled automotive industry reached IDR 143 trillion.
Director of Maritime Industry, Transportation Equipment and Defense Equipment of the Directorate General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry, Mahardi Tunggul, explained that the investment value was greater than the two and three-wheeled motor vehicle industry of IDR 30 trillion.
If totaled, the total investment of both reached IDR 174.31 trillion.
"For motorized vehicles, we have 32 manufacturers at this time, also supported by 73 manufacturers of two and three-wheeled motorized vehicles. In total, investment for four wheels currently reaches Rp. 143 trillion and for two and three wheels of Rp. 30.4 trillion," said Tunggul at the Ministry of Industry building, Jakarta, Monday, May 19.
Even so, Tunggul said, sales of four-wheeled vehicles from 2023 to 2024 decreased from the previous 1 million units to 860,000 units.
As for the two and three wheels, sales rose slightly from the previous 6.24 million units in 2023 to 6.33 million in 2024.
Meanwhile, for investment in the Indonesian electric vehicle industry, the amount is IDR 5.63 trillion.
The investment comes from the electric bus industry, electric cars to two- and three-wheeled electric vehicles.
"Currently, there are seven companies or seven manufacturers. For electric cars, we have nine companies and 63 two-wheeled companies and three. In total, there are around IDR 5.63 trillion for electric buses, electric cars and two- and three-wheelers," he said.
Tunggul added that the government has a production target of 600,000 units of electric vehicles by 2030 and nine million units for two and three-wheeled electric vehicles.
Then, the number rose again in 2035 by 1 million units for four-wheeled vehicles and 12 million units for two- and three-wheeled vehicles.
In terms of population, the Ministry of Industry noted, the population of electric vehicles covering two, three and four wheels reached 246,714 in 2025.
This figure is an increase compared to 2024 which is 207,478 units.
"For the population as of 2025, we have 246,714 units of electric vehicles in Indonesia. This is spread from two-wheelers, three- and four- and electricity. This figure has increased from the previous 2024 of 207,478 units," he said.
But at this time, Tunggul said, sales of two-wheeled electric vehicles tend to decline along with the unclear continuation of incentives from the government.

In addition, the public also began to consider various aspects before buying electric motorbikes.
"So, from 2022 at the start of this incentive to 2023 there was an increase of 263 percent of sales. However, this significant figure did not occur again in 2023 to 2024 because the increase in sales was only around 24 percent," he explained.
"It could be because people have started to weigh related to the technology, regarding how we have products that have batteries. Then how to charging them and others when they have electric motorcycles," he concluded.
