The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) stated that layoffs (PHK) on thousands of employees globally by Panasonic Holdings did not occur in Indonesia.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry, Febri Hendri Antoni Arif, stated that Indonesia remains one of the important production bases for Panasonic in Southeast Asia.
"The layoffs that occurred at Panasonic Holdings did not have an impact on Panasonic's operations in Indonesia. Factories in Indonesia have become the basis for exports to more than 80 countries, reflecting the very strong competitiveness of the national electronics industry," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 13.
He admitted that the utilization of the electronics industry is currently at a low level, namely 50.64 percent in the first quarter of 2025. Meanwhile, before the COVID-19 pandemic, the sector's utilization reached 75.6 percent.
This condition is a reminder for all industry players and employees to continue to adapt and carry out transformations to remain competitive.
"Global competition in the electronics sector is getting tighter. This is a warning that technological transformation, increased productivity, and operational efficiency are the keys to survival," he said.
According to Febri, the government has an interest in increasing the utilization through domestic market protection from the onslaught of imported electronic products, while maintaining investment in the existing electronics sector, as well as attracting new investments.
Furthermore, Febri emphasized, Indonesia has a great advantage as a strong domestic market, considering that it has great potential to be developed.
"Indonesia's domestic market is one of the largest in the region, and the government fully supports industrial strengthening through the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) policy," he said.

As a concrete step, the Ministry of Industry continues to strive to encourage increased productivity of the electronics industry through various programs, ranging from providing incentives, training on industrial workers, to strengthening a high technology-based manufacturing ecosystem.
"We are optimistic, with the right policy support and strong synergy between industry players and the government, the electronic sector in Indonesia will continue to grow and contribute significantly to the national economy," said Febri.
