JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has deployed a team of Electricity Inspectors to investigate the causes of blackouts in the Bali area on Friday, May 2, 2025.
"We apologize to all the people affected by this inconvenience," said the Director General of Electricity, Jisman Hutajulu, quoted Monday, May 5.
Jisman said, the cause of the blackout of the electricity system in Bali is still in the further investigation stage. Based on preliminary findings from PT PLN (Persero), the blackout was allegedly triggered by interference in the High Voltage Sea Cable Channel (SKLT). This disruption caused a power cut from the power plant, triggering blackouts to spread throughout Bali.
PLN is moving fast and tackling this disturbance. Within 35 minutes, the transmission was successfully restored and the electricity supply from Java returned to Bali.
The recovery of the plant is carried out in stages, while the need for electricity for vital facilities is supported by the use of generators.
The latest data from PLN shows that SKLT is now functioning again, all substations have operated normally with a total power of 747 megawatts, and electricity supply to all customers has recovered 100 percent and returned to normal on Saturday 3 May at 03.30 WITA.
"We have assigned the Electricity Inspector to thoroughly inspect the installation of power plants and transmission networks in the Bali electricity system," explained Jisman.
