JAKARTA - The manager of Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport was forced to use the backup electricity supply from the airport generator to ensure operations continued.

The use of generators was carried out because of a disturbance in the Java-Bali transfer submarine cable which had an impact on the airport's electricity supply.

The disruption of the Java-Bali transfer submarine cable makes the electricity on the Island of the Gods completely dead.

General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab said the electricity at the airport was out around 16.30 local time. Currently, he said airport operations can run again using spare electricity.

"Currently, the service process is running by using the backup electricity supply from the airport generator and we ensure that diesel fuel is met as an anticipatory measure," he said in an official statement, Friday, May 2.

"We are trying to optimally provide services in the midst of this situation and continue to coordinate with related parties to monitor developments," he continued.

He also ensured that the service for aircraft arriving at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport is still running normally.

Even so, he admitted that there was a flight delay.

"However, for departure, there were several flights that experienced delays due to the time when the transfer of electricity sources from PLN to generators which had an impact on the system's transition time to restart," he explained.

For this incident, continued Ahmad, the manager of Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport apologized.

"We apologize for the inconvenience that has occurred and hopefully the operation can return to normal soon," he said
