Ministry Of Trade Will Deregulate Export-Import Policy

JAKARTA - The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Budi Santoso plans to regulate policies related to exports and imports. This posts President Prabowo Subianto's plan to abolish the import quota.

"There will be a policy deregulation later, yes, the deregulation in the Ministry of Trade is related to import policies, export policies, yes, then ease of doing business and everything," he said at the Ministry of Trade office, Jakarta, Thursday, April 17.

Budi said that this deregulation is to facilitate the company and create a better business climate. Moreover, he said, the establishment of the Deregulation Task Force (Satgas) is being discussed by the government.

"We will regulate all policies to create a better business climate," he said.

He said that later the Deregulation Task Force together with related ministries/agencies would identify which commodities could get import leniency.

"The Deregulation Task Force is being formed again, yes later (identification will be carried out by the Task Force) together with K/L, what kind of policy will it be. But what is clear is that from the Ministry of Trade it is (import policy and export policy) that we will regulate," he explained.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto asked for the removal of import quotas, especially for commodities related to the lives of many people.

In this regard, the Head of State revealed that he had given direct instructions to the relevant ranks to eliminate quota mechanisms that could hinder the smooth running of trade.

The statement of the abolition was conveyed by the President during a dialogue session at the Economic Sarasehan event which was held at the Mandiri Tower, Jakarta, on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

"But what is clear is that the Coordinating Minister yesterday, the Minister of Finance, the Governor of BI is there, the Chairman of the DEN is there. I have given orders to eliminate import quotas. Especially for goods related to the lives of many people. Who can afford it, who wants to import, please, be free.
