JAKARTA - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) hopes that the community, especially the younger generation, has the ability to recognize risks before deciding to use digital financial asset products and services, including crypto assets.

Chief Executive of the Supervision of Financial Technology Innovation, Digital Financial Assets, and OJK Crypto Assets Hasan Fawzi hopes that the public can make the right decisions and steps in using digital financial services, as well as a smarter and longer-term investment decision.

"Of course this is inseparable from the reality, we cannot deny that when compared to other asset classes, in recent years the potential benefits provided by these crypto assets are the highest, compared to other asset classes, say gold, property, stocks, and so on, but also have a high investment risk," Hasan said quoting Antara.

Hasan said that the younger generation must be able to understand the profile and needs of themselves, so that the selected digital financial products and services can be adjusted to their needs in order to achieve the expected financial goals.

He emphasized the importance of digital financial literacy for students and students as part of community empowerment efforts in the digital financial era. As part of this step, OJK held a public lecture in the context of the Crypto Literacy Month at Palangkaraya University, Palangkaraya, Friday.

This public lecture is expected to improve the insight and understanding of the younger generation regarding digital finance well and understand financial products and services, benefits, and risks. That way, people are able to make smart decisions in investing in an increasingly massive digital financial era.

The hybrid activity was attended by more than 1,000 participants from students and students from Palangka Raya University in the OJK working area of Central Kalimantan Province.

The public lecture was also attended by Assistant for the Economy of the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government Sri Widanarni, Head of OJK for East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan Provinces Parjiman, and Head of OJK for Central Kalimantan Province, Primandannu Febriyan Aziz.

Three speakers were also presented to fill a public lecture, namely OJK Supervision Agency Did Noordiatmoko, OJK Financial Innovation Group Head Ludy Arlianto, and Assistant Secretary General Aspakrindo Malikulkusno Utomo.

The Vice Chancellor of Palangkaraya University appreciated and welcomed this public lecture activity. According to him, students and students need to be equipped with digital financial literacy in order to have a good understanding and avoid the risk of choosing investment, especially digital finance.

Based on CoFTRA data in 2024, the value of crypto asset transactions jumped sharply to reach Rp650.61 trillion, an increase of 335.91 percent year on year (yoy) from 2023.

OJK also noted that crypto assets have a high level of risk, such as price fluctuations and the practice of fraud or scams.

As for January 10, 2025, OJK has received a new mandate to regulate and supervise digital financial assets including crypto assets. Previously, this task was held by the Commodity Futures Trading Supervisory Agency (CoFTRA). This transfer of duties is in line with the Law on Financial Sector Development and Strengthening (UU P2SK).
