Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto met with Emirate Global Alumunium (EGA) CEO Abdulnasser Ibrahim Saif Bin Kalban to discuss the continuation of the plan for cooperation in the development of aluminum production.
This meeting discussed the continuation of the ega cooperation plan to support the development of Alumunium production, through the development of Smelters that process Bauxite in Indonesia.
CEO Abdulnasser said that Indonesia has great potential as one of the main players in the aluminum industry, however, further discussions is needed to map out projects that can be collaborated.
"Indonesia is a potential country in the aluminum sector, therefore it is necessary to immediately carry out a feasibility study to measure the efficiency of Indonesian aluminum products," said Abdulnasser in his statement, Thursday, February 13.
On this occasion, Abdulnasser also stated that EGA had agreed to cooperate with PT Indonesia Asahan Alumunium (INALM) to expand the smelter north of Sumatra to 400,000 Tons per year.
However, Abdulnasser said the cooperation project had not been realized due to the high cost of electricity and low-carbon electricity supply, which is used to produce green aluminum.
In addition, Abdulnasser also said that EGA uses solar panels as a source of aluminum processing staff and plans to build nuclear-powered power plants with a capacity of up to 5 GW. With this capability, cooperation with Indonesia can be realized.

"With the capabilities and advanced technology that we use, and the potential of natural resources owned by Indonesia will produce the best alumina in large quantities," continued Abdulnasser.
Responding to this, Airlangga revealed that he would coordinate with Inalum to follow up on previously agreed cooperation.
In addition, Airlangga also said that relevant stakeholders also need to be involved in accelerating the implementation of cooperation commitments.
"Cooperation needs to be carried out with other parties such as PLN to develop low-carbon electricity to meet sufficient electricity supply for aluminum production," said Airlangga
Airlangga emphasized that this collaboration must have a significant impact on the Indonesian economy and involve the private sector in Indonesia.
"It is necessary to ensure that this cooperation in the Alumunium sector has a big economic impact, especially in job creation," Airlangga continued.
