JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has confirmed that it will accelerate the Cirebon Semarang (Cisem II) and Dumai-Sei mangkei (Dusem) natural gas pipeline installation project.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Yuliot Tanjung said that the construction of this project would essentially take advantage of the budget sourced from Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources so that it would not be affected by budget efficiency in 2025.

"So, the government is trying to accelerate the development of gas networks in Sumatra, including flows to Batam. For Java as well, we are accelerating for Cisem," said Yuliot at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Building, Friday, February 7.

Yuliot added that currently the availability of natural gas supply in Sumatra and Batam is still very high.

Therefore, the government wants an acceleration of the development of natural gas infrastructure so that it can be utilized by the community.

In fact, said Yuliot, the government has given an assignment to PGN to build the Dumai - Sei Mangkei gas pipeline installation but it is not yet running.

"If there is no acceleration, the electricity costs borne by the industry will be higher, so our competitiveness will be even more eroded," added Yuliot.

Meanwhile, the government has also started the Cirebon-Semarang Gas Pipeline project Phase II Batang-Kandang Haur Timur in September 2024 and is targeted to be completed within 18 months.

This phase II cysm gas pipeline project, the budget disbursed is IDR 2.7 trillion from the APBN which will be carried out for 18 months for three years. So that it is targeted for the completion of the first quarter of 2026.
