Government Targets EBT Electricity Use In 2025 Capai 23 Percent

JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia revealed that by 2025 the government is targeting the energy mix from cleaner and more sustainable energy sources to 23 percent.

Bahlil reported, until now the total electricity existing throughout Indonesia has reached 101 gigawatts (GW). The electricity managed by PLN was recorded at 72 to 75 GW with an EBT percentage of 16 to 17 percent.

"Our actual planning target for 2025 has to reach 23 percent. This means that we still have a deficit of approximately 8,000 megawatts or 8 gigawatts," Bahlil said in his remarks at the inauguration of the Jatigede hydropower plant, Monday, January 20.

However, Bahlil admitted that this target could be achieved by the inauguration of a number of electricity infrastructure and EBT plants carried out.

As is known today President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated 26 power plants in 26 provinces with a total of 3.2 GW with an 89 percent percentage coming from the EBT generator.

"Why do we do this continuously because this is in order to translate what the President has committed to Indonesia to transition energy from PLTU fossil energy to new and renewable energy," continued Bahlil.

Bahlil added that the government also plans to encourage new power plants by prioritizing independent electricity companies or Independent Power Producers (IPP). Later, IPP will be involved in the government's plan to increase the electricity portion of EBT by 71 GW as stated in the 2025-2034 Electric Power Supply Business Plan (RUPTL).

"So the 71 GW, the largest portion is approximately 60 percent, we will leave it to the private sector. But the credible private sector, the private sector in line with the non-private government, is making additional movements beyond what the government is doing," said Bahlil.
