JAKARTA – Bank Indonesia and the Ministry of Finance officially launched seven new banknotes for the year 2022.

BI Governor Perry Warjiyo said the launch coincided with the 77th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence this year.

"The money in circulation consists of denominations of Rp. 100,000, Rp. 50,000, Rp. 20,000, Rp. 10,000, Rp. 5,000, Rp. 2,000, and Rp. 1.00," he said today, Thursday, August 18.

According to Perry, the 2022 issuance money still maintains the main image of national heroes on the front and the theme of Indonesian culture on the back. He explained that there are three aspects of this money strengthening innovation, namely a sharper color design, a more reliable security element, and a better resistance to money materials.

"Innovation is intended to make Rupiah currency easier to recognize for its authenticity, comfortable, and safe to use, and more difficult to counterfeit so that Rupiah currency is more quality and reliable and becomes a shared pride as a symbol of the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," he said.

Furthermore, the issuance and circulation of the 2022 TE Currency is one of the implementations of the mandate of the Currency Law as part of the planning to meet the people's money needs in 2022 and while still implementing good governance according to the Act.

Meanwhile, the issuance of the 2022 TE Currency does not have the effect of revocation and/or withdrawal of previously issued rupiah notes. All banknotes or coins that have been previously issued are declared to still be valid as legal tender in the entire territory of the Republic of Indonesia.

"Revocation and withdrawal of rupiah currency from circulation are placed in the State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia and announced through the mass media," he said.

For information, the public can exchange money for the 2022 issue year through banking or mobile cash provided by Bank Indonesia.

Redemption orders via mobile cash are made through the PINTAR application which can be accessed through the official website of Bank Indonesia starting August 18, 2022 while maintaining health protocols.
