Pertamina's Managing Director Nicke Widyawati Brings Good News, She Is Ranked 17th Most Influential Woman In The World

JAKARTA - President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Nicke Widyawati is ranked 17th out of the 100 most influential women in the world according to Fortune Magazine.

"This recognition is clear evidence of the great international trust in Pertamina, which continues to move to anticipate the energy transition," Nicke said in her statement, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, October 12.

Nicke was chosen along with a number of global CEOs, including GlaxoSmithKline CEO Emma Walmsley in first place, Ping An Group CEO Jessica Tan in second, Banco Santander CEO Ana Botin in third, and Macquarie Group Ltd CEO Shemara R Wikramanayake in fourth.

Following Nicke, Unilever's President Global Foods & Refreshment Hanneke Faber ranked 23rd, Norsk Hydro CEO Hilde Merete Aasheim ranked 24th, P&G CEO Alexandra Keith ranked 37th, and OCBC NISP CEO Helen Wong ranked 41st.

Fortune International magazine recognizes Nicke Widyawati's achievements as the highest leader of an energy company in Indonesia which has been proven by her ability to overcome the triple shock challenges, namely the fall in oil prices, the decline in fuel demand, and the pressure on the exchange rate experienced by Pertamina during the 2020 pandemic.

Fortune assessed that these three factors had reduced Pertamina's revenue and profit. However, in the first half of 2021, under Nicke's leadership, Pertamina showed better conditions by achieving its oil and gas production targets.

This prestigious magazine at the global level also acknowledges that Nicke continues to support Indonesia's energy transition by building a new renewable energy portfolio to provide clean energy for Indonesia in the future.

Nicke has planned and focused on carrying out the energy transition and decarbonization steps in the company's operations from upstream to downstream during her tenure at Pertamina. This is in line with the assessment of the implementation of Pertamina's Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) aspects which experienced a significant increase from a score of 41.6 or included in the Several Risk category (February 2021) to 28.1 in the Medium Risk category in September 2021.

The improvement in the score has placed Pertamina in the 15th position in the industry, as well as the eighth rank in the world oil and gas sub-industry. Pertamina's position as a medium-risk company in implementing ESG is also shared by global companies Repsol, ENI, PTT Public Co, and TotalEnergies.

This position is above Royal Dutch Shell, BP, Exxon Mobil which are still in the High-Risk category, and Chevron, Petrobras, and Petronas which are considered to be in the Severe Risk category.

The rating has increased due to Pertamina's planned actions to save the climate and energy transition to net-zero, namely operational decarbonization, the form of a portfolio for green growth investment, as well as accelerating innovation and green growth.

"Together with all Pertamina's management and employees, I will ensure that all strategic initiatives to realize the green transition continues and are able to achieve the target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions between 29-41 percent by 2030," Nicke said.
