JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is currently preparing a roadmap or roadmap for bioavtur commercialization in Indonesia. The use of a mixture of biofuels and avtur is planned to be used by all airlines, both national and international.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif admitted that until now the development of bioavtur in the country is still hampered by various things. Among them are the availability of bioavtur products, technological processes and also their economic value.
"For this reason, we expect support from all parties for the next stages of testing that must be carried out. Including preparing a roadmap for its commercialization," he said during the online ceremonial success of the J2.4 fuel flight test, Wednesday, October 6.
Arifin said in the development of bioavtur, the government will do it gradually. This is in accordance with the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation (Permen) No. 12 of 2015. In the initial stage, avtur will be mixed with vegetable oil with a percentage of 3 percent in 2020.
Then, said Arifin, in 2025 it will increase to 5 percent with a gradual increase every year in accordance with the development of research and technology owned.
"Of course we will not stop and be complacent at this stage. Research and development to later produce J100 products and the use of bioavtur can be used in all airlines in Indonesia and all foreign airlines," he said.
Arifin explained that the use of bioavtur fuel has advantages. One of them is to reduce carbon gas emissions produced by aircraft. In addition, the effort to develop bioavtur is a form of the program to use new and renewable energy (EBT).
"Meanwhile, in the air transportation sector, international aviation organizations under the auspices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) have issued a long-term target of 2050, namely achieving emissions 50 percent below the 2005 emission level," he said.
On the same occasion, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that the J2.4 bioavtur which had been tested was included in the development of biodiesel. Later it will be continued until the J100 program. This step is an effort to transition fossil energy to more environmentally friendly energy.
Moreover, he said, Indonesia has also committed to reducing greenhouse gases by 29 percent with its own efforts and 41 percent with international support.
"The market share of J2.4 is estimated to reach Rp1.1 trillion," he said.
