Central Statistics Agency: Inflation In August 2021 At 0.03 Percent, The Highest In Kendari At 0.62 Percent

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said that in August 2021 there would be inflation of 0.03 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 106.57.

Deputy for Statistics and Services at BPS Setianto said that of the 90 CPI cities, 34 cities experienced inflation and 56 cities experienced deflation.

"The highest inflation occurred in Kendari at 0.62 percent with a CPI of 108.48 and the lowest occurred in Tanjung at 0.01 percent with a CPI of 108.17", he said in a virtual press conference, Wednesday, September 1.

According to Setianto, the highest deflation occurred in Sorong at 1.04 percent with a CPI of 107.20 and the lowest occurred in Meulaboh, Sukabumi, and Timika at 0.03 percent each with a CPI of 109.93 and then 106.56. and 108.14.

"Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in most indexes of the expenditure group, namely housing, water, electricity, and household fuel by 0.05 percent", he said.

Meanwhile, the expenditure groups that experienced a decline in the index were: food, beverages, and tobacco by 0.32 percent, clothing and footwear group by 0.07 percent, transportation group by 0.05 percent, information, communication, and financial services group by 0 .01 percent, and the recreation, sports, and culture group by 0.07 percent.

"The inflation rate for the calendar year (January-August) 2021 is 0.84 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2021 to August 2020) is 1.59 percent", he said.

Meanwhile, the core component in August 2021 experienced inflation of 0.21 percent.

"The inflation rate for the core component of the calendar year (January-August) 2021 is 1.03 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate for the core component (August 2021 to August 2020) is 1.31 percent", he concluded.
