JAKARTA - The successful transfer of management of the oil and gas field in the Rokan Block, Riau Province from PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI) to PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan received a good response from the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif.

"Accurate management and activities that support the transition by utilizing procurement contracts and establishing active cooperation between Pertamina and Chevron are one of the productive initiatives that are the key to the transition process of Rokan's work area," said Arifin quoting Antara, Monday 9 August, early in the morning.

Pertamina Hulu Rokan has now taken over the management of the oldest oil and gas mine in Lancang Kuning for the next 20 years. Previously managed by Chevron Pacific Indonesia.

The transfer of management is in accordance with the mandate issued by the government through the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources in 2018.

The Rokan Block is one of the strategic work areas that has produced more than 11 billion barrels of oil from 1951 to 2021.

At the end of July 2021, the average production of the working area is around 160.5 thousand barrels per day or about 24 percent of national production and 41 million cubic feet per day for natural gas.

The government hopes that Pertamina Hulu Rokan can increase oil and gas production in the Rokan Block through massive drilling investments.

"This must be Pertamina's commitment considering the Rokan work area is the largest working area in Indonesia which has strategic value in meeting the production target of 1 million barrels of oil per day and 12 BSCFD by 2030," said Arifin.
