JAKARTA - Trigana Air, which serves passenger flights from Jayapura - Jayawijaya and vice versa, has stopped services for two weeks due to COVID-19 continuing to increase in this area which has reached 220 as of July 12.

Trigana Air Wamena's manager Michael Biduri said that the flight stoppage began on 12 July, in line with the local government's policy.

"We continue to support the local government's policies, so that the planes operating temporarily in Wamena will be transferred to areas that have not imposed the closure of passenger flights," he said as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 13

The airline also closed services for emergency flights for people in need.

"If there is a request for an emergency flight, it is impossible to serve because the planes serving Wamena passengers are already serving to other areas," he said.

Previously the Jayawijaya COVID-19 Team decided to close passenger flights for all passenger airlines from outside Jayawijaya to this area because some passengers who came from outside Jayawijaya through the airport were detected with the virus.

Jayawijaya COVID-19 Team Leader Jhon Banua said the airport closure would last for the next 14 days.

"Starting on July 12, we will stop passenger flights to Jayawijaya because COVID-19 cases are increasing and our patient beds in isolation rooms are limited," he said.
