Garuda Indonesia Management Is Open, From 142 Aircraft Only 6 Are Owned And Others Are Leased

JAKARTA - PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk reports that currently, the company has 142 aircraft as its operational fleet for business activities. Of these, 136 aircraft are leased, while 6 other aircraft are owned by themselves.

This was revealed when the state-owned airline gave an explanation to the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) on questions regarding the company's business conditions.

Furthermore, the six fleets belonging to the Airbus A330-300 type are one type of wide-body aircraft.

Meanwhile, the 136 aircraft leased from the lessor consist of 10 units of Boeing B777-300, 3 units of Airbus A330-900, 7 units of Airbus A330-200, and 73 units of Boeing B737-800.

Then, 1 unit of Boeing B737-8 MAX, 18 units of Bombardier CRJ1000, and 13 units of ATR 72-600.

To note, not all of these fleets are now operational. Garuda Indonesia confirmed that only 53 aircraft were still flying. While the rest are mentioned as maintenance or grounded status.

In their explanation, the issuer codenamed GIAA shares revealed that there were also planes that had been relocated.

“The company is currently continuing to negotiate with the lessor for aircraft with grounded status, in which the approach taken is to return to operation or carry out early termination/return of the aircraft. For this strategy, of course, taking into account the needs of the fleet in accordance with the demand for flight services in the new normal era", said Garuda management as quoted on Friday, June 18.

Then, this national flag carrier explains the company's strategy to fund operational sustainability in the short term.

“The source of the company's cash funding to fund the company's operational sustainability in the short term comes from the company's operating income. In addition, the agreement to restructure business obligations between the company and several SOEs as well as lessors will certainly contribute to maintaining the sustainability of the company's operations", said Garuda.
