PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT) has managed to record an additional production of almost 1,900 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) from two development wells in the Sejadi Field in East Kalimantan waters.
General Manager of Zone 10, Darmapala explained, the additional production recorded on June 12, 2026 provided additional oil supplies to support energy availability and strengthen national energy resilience.
"The two development wells that were successfully completed are Sejadi SJ-6 and Sejadi SJ-4RD1 wells. Sejadi SJ-6 is a New Drill Well with an S-type Directional drilling trajectory and a total depth of 11,266 ftMD," he said, Wednesday, June 17.
Meanwhile, Sumur Sejadi SJ-4RD1 is a directional S-type well with a total depth of 9,112 ftMD.
In the midst of various technical challenges at the Sejadi Field, PHKT managed to complete the drilling of the second well faster and at a lower cost than the budget that had been set.
Based on the results of the test, the Sejadi SJ-4RD1 well produced 923 BOPD of oil and 0.853 MMSCFD of gas. In total, the two wells provided an additional oil production of 1,865 BOPD.
This achievement is part of PHKT's strategic steps in optimizing the potential of the Sejadi Field which has a fairly complex subsurface characteristics through a comprehensive study with the concept of infill and step out development. Drilling on the Sejadi platform is also supported by facility improvements through a deck extension program to support the development of the field more optimally.
The addition of the platform area through the deck extension program provides more adequate space for the development of facilities and operational activities, thus supporting efforts to increase the production of the Sejadi Field in a sustainable manner. This achievement shows that the continued development of existing fields still has the potential to provide added value through increased production while strengthening its contribution to national energy security.
According to him, the success of the Sejadi Field development shows that oil and gas fields that have been producing for a long time still have the potential to continue to be developed through a measured and selective strategy.
Behind the additional production of almost 1,900 BOPD from the Sejadi Field, there is a strong cross-functional collaboration that is the key to the success of the development of this field. The collaboration involves a Subsurface team that identifies the potential of the field, a Drilling & Well Intervention team that executes the drilling program and well completion to the put on production stage, a Project team that ensures the readiness of facilities, and a Kalimantan Field team that maintains operational reliability.
