Bali Experienced 308 Times Electricity Disruption Due To Kites, PLN: If It Gets Stuck, There Will Be Blackouts

JAKARTA - The State Electricity Company, the Main Distribution Unit (PLN UID) in Bali, said that during the three years there were 380 electricity supply disruptions caused by kites.

PLN UID Bali Communications and General Finance Manager, Zufar accompanied by PLN UID Bali Communications Manager, I Made Arya in Denpasar, Wednesday, said there were 72 power failures in 2019, 291 times in 2020, while in 2021 to June 6, electricity supply disruptions were 17 times.

He also appealed to the public to fly kites in a safe place, such as in the field or on the beach, so that it is far from the power grid and roads.

"Large-sized kites should also not be played, because if the kite gets stuck in the power grid, it can cause electrical disturbances resulting in blackouts in important places such as hospitals, airports, and national vital objects", he said quoted from Antara, Thursday 10 June.

For this reason, Zufar invites the community to play an active role so as not to disturb the electricity network. Residents are also expected if there are disturbances or know of disturbances due to kites hitting the PLN network through the PLN 123 call center or the New PLN Mobile application.

If there is a power failure due to kites, PLN has also collaborated with various parties to jointly remind the public to play kites in a safe place.

"We expect residents to play kites in a safe place, so it doesn't cause disruption to the electricity network", he said.
