Observer Warns: Government Don't Repeat Mistakes In Palembang LRT Construction

JAKARTA - Transportation observer Djoko Setijowarno reminded the government not to repeat the mistake of building a light rail transit (LRT) in Palembang, South Sumatra, which had a minimal trial period.

"Don't ignore access to any stations that have not been completed, and we must immediately build road network access to stations outside Jakarta," Djoko said in his statement in Jakarta, as quoted from Antara, Thursday, June 9.

Djoko said that further transportation was needed to connect between residential areas to the nearest station. According to him, in 2020, PT KAI has conducted these studies.

The head of the Advocacy and Community Division of the Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI) said the potential for private vehicle mode transfer to the Jabodebek LRT is 81 percent. The reason is that the travel time is shorter and the travel costs are much cheaper than the toll road.

Then, the potential for changing modes of public transportation to the Jabodebek LRT is as much as 74 percent, citing a shorter travel time and activities close to the LRT station.

"This is the importance of the availability of public transportation networks and the integration of modes along the Jabodebek LRT corridor," he said.

Djoko added that accessibility variables that are a priority for Jabodebek LRT users include the ease of public transportation to the LRT station and vice versa. Then near the center of commercial or office activities, parking facilities are available, near settlements, near the main road, wide station entrance access, and feeders from LRT stations, namely buses, public transportation, online transportation, and Transjakarta Buses.

"Bogor residents can use the Jabodebek LRT after providing public transportation that connects Baranangsiang Terminal to Harjamukti Station. But unfortunately this year it cannot be done because it is hampered by the Bogor Regency Government's rejection of the BTS program organized by BPTJ.
