JAKARTA - Minister of Investment and Industrialization/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani welcomed the launch of the France-Indonesia High Level Business Council as a strategic step to strengthen the economic relationship between Indonesia and France, as well as accelerating the realization of investment and trade between the two countries.

The launch of the high-level business council was held on May 28, 2026 in the presence of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron in the context of President Prabowo's official state visit to France.

"The establishment of the France-Indonesia High Level Business Council is an important milestone in strengthening the economic partnership between the two countries. This forum is not only a forum for dialogue between business actors, but also a driving engine to encourage investment, trade, and strategic cooperation that provides real benefits for both countries," said Rosan in a written statement received by VOI on May 29, 2026.

The business forum brought together 30 leaders of leading industries and companies from Indonesia and France with a total combined market capitalization of USD 1.3 trillion. The business council is jointly led by the Chair of the France-Indonesia Business Council MEDEF International and Danone CEO Antoine de Saint-Affrique, and the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Anindya Bakrie.

Rosan revealed that the momentum of the business council's launch also resulted in four new commercial deals worth USD 3.5 billion which were focused on the energy security, trade, and defense cooperation sectors.

"The confidence of the French business community in Indonesia continues to increase. The agreements reached show that Indonesia is seen as a strategic partner with long-term growth prospects and an increasingly competitive investment climate," said Rosan.

According to Rosan, the existence of this business council will also play an important role in overseeing the implementation of various memorandums of understanding and investment commitments that have been agreed upon previously. During President Macron's state visit to Indonesia in May 2025, a total of 27 MoUs were signed with a value of more than USD 11 billion.

"No less important is ensuring that all of these commitments can be realized. Therefore, this forum will be a means to identify obstacles, accelerate the completion of various obstacles, and ensure that investments run optimally," he continued.

The Indonesian-French Business Council targets a tripling of total trade between the two countries by 2035. With the full support of the Indonesian and French governments, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and MEDEF International will continue to strengthen the bilateral economic corridor to open up new cooperation opportunities in various strategic sectors.

"We are optimistic that the economic relationship between Indonesia and France will become stronger. Collaboration between the government and the business world is the key to creating sustainable growth, opening up employment opportunities, and strengthening the competitiveness of both countries in the midst of global economic dynamics," concluded Rosan.
