JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI has recorded that the Siliwangi train is still the mainstay mode of transportation for the community on the Sukabumi-Cianjur-Cipatat route. From January to April 2026, the pioneering train has served 457,890 customers.

The high number of customers shows that the Siliwangi train remains the main choice of the community on the Cianjuran track because it offers safe, comfortable, and affordable travel for daily activities.

KAI Corporate Communication Vice President Anne Purba said the Siliwangi train has a strong emotional closeness to the community because it has long been a link between various activities of residents in the Sukabumi, Cianjur, and West Bandung areas.

"Every trip on the Siliwangi train carries many stories of life. There are students who set out to pursue their dreams, traders who make a living for their families, to people who want to meet their loved ones. Therefore, the Siliwangi train has a very close meaning for the community," Anne said in an official statement, Thursday, May 28.

Through the Public Service Obligation (PSO) scheme, the public can enjoy a journey of about 67 kilometers (km) at a rate of Rp. 5,000. The tariff is considered to help the public reduce daily travel costs, especially for customers who routinely travel for work, school, trade, and other inter-regional activities.

The journey of the Siliwangi train starts from Sukabumi Station and passes through a number of stations such as Gandasoli, Cireungas, Cibadak, Karangtengah, Cianjur, Ciranjang, Cipeuyeum, Gekbrong, Lampegan, Cibeber until it ends at Cipatat Station.

According to Anne, each station has different characteristics and community activities. In the Cibadak and Cireungas areas, for example, the train is a mainstay of trade and agricultural mobility. Meanwhile, in the Cianjur and Ciranjang areas, train travel helps people get to education centers, health services, and economic centers.

"Meanwhile, in the Lampegan and Cibeber areas, the mountainous atmosphere presents a journey that feels warm and calm," he said.

Anne said, from behind the train window, customers can also enjoy the expanse of rice fields, green hills, to the mountain air that is still beautiful. The journey also passes through the Lampegan Tunnel, which is known as one of the historical relics of railways in West Java.

In addition to being a daily transportation, the Siliwangi train also supports access to a number of tourist destinations in West Java. From Cibeber Station, customers can continue their journey to the Gunung Padang Megalithic Site. Meanwhile, from Cipatat Station, people can access the Stone Garden and Pawon Cave areas which are known as ancient karst landscapes of high historical value.

Anne assessed that the existence of the Siliwangi train also encouraged the economic circulation of the community along the Cianjuran crossing. Mobility ease is said to help the development of local trade, distribution of agricultural products, to the tourism sector.

"Many customers already know each other because they meet almost every day on the same journey. There is a sense of closeness that grows in the train. Therefore, the Siliwangi train has become part of people's lives on this line," concluded Anne.
