JAKARTA - PT Multi Harapan Utama (MHU), part of MMS Resources, a subholding of MMSGI, won the Indonesia Best CSR Awards 2026 organized by The Iconomics for the Equality Education Program Package A, B, and C which was carried out in the mining circle area of Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan.
Since it was implemented in 2019, the program has helped 869 residents obtain an equality education diploma, with 212 graduates successfully obtaining jobs in various companies and business sectors. Due to this impact, MHU is considered to have successfully brought about real social benefits through increased access to education as well as the opening of economic opportunities for the community.
The award was given during an event held at the Aneka Bhakti Building, Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Jakarta, on Thursday, May 21, with the theme "CSR Transformation: Corporate Adaptation in the New Direction of the Prabowo Subianto Presidential Government".
This program started from the results of the MHU social mapping which showed that the dropout rate in the company's operational Ring 1 area was still high. From around 52 thousand residents spread across 10 villages, around 34 percent of residents were recorded as not completing formal education. To answer this challenge, MHU together with PKBM Puteri Karang Melenu, Loa Kulu District, presented an equal education program as part of long-term community development efforts.
In addition to providing A, B, and C Package education, this program is also supported by the provision of learning facilities, renovation of community learning activity centers (PKBM), procurement of computers, and job skills training such as heavy equipment operators and etiquette. In 2024, the total budget of the program reached IDR 516 million which came from the support of PT MHU CSR, assistance from the Department of Education, and contributions from learning residents.
Until now, a total of 212 graduates of the program have obtained jobs in various companies and business sectors, including PT Madani, PT AMM, PT Niaga Mas, the security services sector, to independent entrepreneurs. Some other graduates also continued their education to higher levels. These achievements show that the education program not only produces diplomas, but also opens wider opportunities to improve the welfare of the community.
The impact of the MHU education program is also reflected in the story of Yeni Yuniarni, a student of the Agrotechnology Study Program at Kutai Kartanegara University (Unikarta) from Loa Ulung Village who managed to continue higher education through MHU scholarship support. Thanks to this program, Yeni was not only able to continue her studies, but also had the opportunity to participate in a student exchange program to South Korea.
"I used to think that I wouldn't be able to go to college because of my family's condition. But this scholarship changed a lot in my life. I can not only continue my education, but also get the opportunity to study in Korea. If I didn't go to college, I might never have gotten to this point," said Yeni.
President Director of PT Multi Harapan Utama, Kemal Djamil Siregar, said that education is an important foundation in creating sustainable social impact in the company's operational areas.
"For MHU, operational success must go hand in hand with improving the quality of life of the community. We carry out this equality and scholarship education program not only as social assistance, but also as a long-term investment to open access, opportunities, and a better future for people around our operational area. We believe that education is one of the main keys to opening wider opportunities and creating a more independent and competitive society," said Kemal.
In addition to receiving national appreciation, this program also shows measurable social impact. This program recorded a Social Return on Investment (SROI) value of 3.59, which means that every Rp1 invested is able to generate social benefits worth Rp3.59 for the community. In addition, this program also obtained a Community Satisfaction Index (IKM) of 3.72 out of 4 or equivalent to 93.06, with the category "Very Good", which reflects the high satisfaction of beneficiaries towards the implementation and impact of the program.
The success of the program also strengthens the company's social relations with the surrounding community and supports the achievement of Village SDGs, especially in terms of poverty alleviation, quality education, economic growth, and development partnerships.
In the future, MHU will continue to strengthen the education program through improving the quality of learning, expanding skills training, and strengthening collaboration with local governments and various stakeholders to expand access to education and improve the competitiveness of local communities sustainably.
