JAKARTA - Trade Minister Budi Santoso revealed that his party is preparing a Trade Minister Regulation (Permendag) regarding the trade management of natural resources (SDA).
For information, the government through the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI) (Danantara) has just launched a mechanism for monitoring export transactions of natural resources and energy. With this mechanism, the management of strategic natural resources and energy exports is carried out through SOEs as of June 1, 2026.
The appointed agency is a new company established by Danantara Indonesia named PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI). In the initial phase, the managed commodities consist of crude palm oil (CPO), coal, and ferrous alloys.
"Automatically (the new Permendag will be issued)... regarding the export of these three commodities," he said when met at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Office, Jakarta, Thursday, May 21.
Budi said the government was also continuing to carry out socialization regarding the policy that had just been announced by President Prabowo Subianto.
When asked about when the new Permendag would be issued, Budi said as soon as possible. In fact, he gave a signal that it would be issued no later than tomorrow.
"Today it must be completed. At the latest tomorrow, but technically today it must be completed," he said.
Previously reported, President Prabowo Subianto announced the issuance of a Government Regulation (PP) on the Management of the Export of Natural Resources Commodities (SDA) as a strategic step to strengthen the supervision and management of national commodity exports.
Prabowo explained that the policy aims to ensure that all Indonesian natural resources export results can be managed more transparently and provide maximum benefits for the country and the people.
"The issuance of this government regulation is a strategic step to strengthen the governance of the export of our natural resource commodities," he said in his speech at the DPR RI Plenary Meeting, Wednesday, May 20.
He added that the government would require the sale of a number of natural resources commodities, such as palm oil, coal, and ferrous alloys, to be carried out through state-owned enterprises (SOEs) designated as sole exporters.
"In a sense, the proceeds from each export sale will be forwarded by the state-owned enterprises appointed by the government to the business actors who manage the activities, this can be said as a marketing facility," he explained.
According to Prabowo, this policy is implemented to strengthen export supervision and monitoring as well as eradicating the practice of underinvoicing, transfer pricing, and export earnings foreign exchange evasion (DHE).
He added that the government also hopes that this step can increase tax revenue and state revenue from the natural resources sector.
"This policy will optimize tax revenue and state revenue from the management and sale of our natural resources with this policy we hope that our revenue will be like Mexico, the Philippines, like our neighboring countries, we don't want our revenue to be the lowest because we don't want to manage our own property," he explained.
