JAKARTA - The candidate for the General Chair of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (BPP HIPMI) Anthony Leong, appreciates the government's strategic steps in strengthening national energy resilience in the midst of a global situation that is increasingly dynamic and full of uncertainty.
In the debate for the Chairman of the General BPP HIPMI, Anthony who also serves as the Chairman of the Synergistic and Inter-State Affairs and BUMN BPP HIPMI assessed that the world's geopolitical turmoil, ranging from inter-state conflicts, global distribution disruptions, to fluctuations in international oil and gas prices, is a serious challenge that must be anticipated through independent and sustainable energy policies.
"The very broad dynamics of the global war make many countries face great pressure in the energy sector. Therefore, we must appreciate President Prabowo's steps which focus on maintaining national energy stability and resilience. Indonesia is ranked number 2 by JP Morgan regarding energy resilience and resistance to shocks," said Anthony in his statement, Tuesday, May 12.
He explained that the government's efforts to maintain domestic energy supply, accelerate the downstream processing of natural resources, increase oil and gas lifting, and open investment opportunities in the new and renewable energy sectors are important steps in strengthening the foundation of the national economy.
According to Anthony, energy resilience is now not only a matter of the energy sector, but has become a key factor affecting national economic stability.
Energy supply disruptions, he said, can have a direct impact on inflation, industrial production costs, logistics distribution, food prices, to people's purchasing power and the sustainability of MSMEs.
"Energy resilience is no longer a sectoral issue, but has become the main instrument to maintain national economic stability. If the energy supply is disrupted, the impact will cascade into the industrial, logistics, food, and people's welfare sectors," he explained.
Furthermore, Anthony assessed that Indonesia has a great opportunity to become a major energy player in the region if it is able to maximize the potential of natural resources and strengthen national energy-based industrialization.
He emphasized that the downstream agenda must continue to be carried out consistently so that Indonesia is no longer only dependent as an exporter of raw materials, but is able to create greater added value for the economy.
"We must not continue to be in the position of being a supplier of raw materials to the world. The current momentum must be used to build a strong energy-based industry, increase added value, open up employment opportunities, and strengthen Indonesia's position in the global supply chain," he said.
Anthony also encouraged the active involvement of the business world in supporting the government's agenda, especially through investment in the renewable energy sector, strengthening industrial technology, energy efficiency, and the development of a more competitive business ecosystem.
According to him, HIPMI has an important role as a link between the government and business actors in supporting energy independence and national economic resilience.
He emphasized that young entrepreneurs must be part of the solution to development and not just be spectators in the midst of global change.
"HIPMI must be a strategic partner of the government in creating a business ecosystem that supports energy independence and national economic resilience. Young entrepreneurs should not only be spectators, but must be part of the solution to national development," he added.
Anthony is optimistic that the strong synergy between the government and the business world will make Indonesia able to face global economic pressures while strengthening its position as one of the main economic powers in Asia.
He assessed that countries with strong energy resilience will be better prepared to maintain economic stability in the midst of global uncertainty.
"In the midst of global uncertainty, countries that have energy independence will be better prepared to maintain economic stability. Indonesia has a large capital for that, it's just how consistent the policy and cross-sector collaboration continues to be strengthened," concluded Anthony.
