JAKARTA - Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM), Maman Abdurrahman, emphasized the government's commitment to strengthening protection and improving the competitiveness of MSMEs entrepreneurs who are active in the digital market or e-commerce.

"The government is committed to ensuring the protection and improvement of the competitiveness of MSME entrepreneurs who sell on e-commerce platforms. So far, there has been no regulation that specifically regulates this," said Maman, quoted Tuesday, April 28.

He explained that the initiative to prepare this regulation was a response to various aspirations and complaints from MSME entrepreneurs, especially regarding the increasing burden of tariffs imposed by digital platforms.

"The state must be present to answer this challenge. Until now, there has been no regulation that comprehensively protects and maintains the competitiveness of MSMEs entrepreneurs in the digital ecosystem," he said.

Furthermore, Maman said that the regulation is currently entering the synchronization phase by involving a number of related ministries and institutions. The government targets this rule to be published soon.

"This rule will be a mandatory legal umbrella, not just an incentive. The goal is clear, namely to provide strong and sustainable protection for micro and small businesses that sell in the digital market," he said.

He also emphasized that the regulations being prepared have a different approach from incentive policies that are temporary.

"The rule that we are pushing for is an umbrella law that provides certainty and long-term protection for micro and small entrepreneurs in e-commerce, not just a situational incentive," he said.

According to him, the presence of this regulation is expected to be able to create a more fair, healthy, and competitive digital ecosystem, as well as provide sustainable legal certainty for MSMEs entrepreneurs in developing their business on digital platforms.
