KAI Land in Tanah Abang is Controlled by Third Parties, the Government Hands Down

JAKARTA - The government is moving quickly to respond to the findings of state-owned land owned by third parties in the Tanah Abang area, Jakarta. The land is planned to be used to support the construction of 3 million houses for the community.

Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning (PKP) Maruarar Sirait said the land in question belonged to PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI. The land has a permanent legal force, but is currently controlled by third parties. There are at least three locations of concern.

"I got information from the President Director of the Railway, yes, and also from Mr. Dony, there is a railway land that has a permanent legal force, but is controlled by a third party in Tanah Abang. There are three locations. We want to see it there," he said in a press conference in the Old City area, Jakarta, Sunday, April 5.

According to him, the state must be present to ensure that these assets can be utilized as much as possible for the benefit of the people, especially in supporting the 3 million house program.

"The state must be present and this is for the people's interest for the 3 million house program. The location is in Tanah Abang," he said.

Maruarar also asked that the legal basis for land ownership be made public to the public, to ensure transparency and strengthen the legitimacy of the enforcement step.

"Please see, where is the legal basis that it belongs to the state and has been legally binding, conveyed to the public," he said.

Furthermore, Maruarar emphasized that the state must not lose in efforts to uphold the right to assets that have permanent legal force, especially if used for the benefit of the wider community.

"The state must not lose to anyone. Especially since it has a fixed legal power, especially when it is used for the benefit of the Indonesian people," concluded Maruarar.
