JAKARTA - The government is speeding up the implementation of the blending of vegetable fuel (BBN) of palm oil-based biodiesel (CPO) into 50 percent (B50) on July 1, 2025.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, said that this acceleration of implementation is part of efforts to achieve energy independence and energy efficiency.

"The government is implementing this B50 policy starting July 1, 2026. Pertamina is ready to implement blending," he said in an online press conference, Tuesday, March 31.

Airlangga said that the use of B50 has the potential to reduce the use of fossil-based fuels by 4 million kiloliters in one year since it was implemented.

Airlangga estimated that in 6 months there would be savings in the use of fossil-based fuels and there would also be savings in biodiesel subsidies, which are estimated to reach Rp. 48 trillion.

Present at the same occasion, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia said that with the implementation of B50, Indonesia will experience a solar surplus. This is supported by the operation of the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP).

"With the implementation of B50, God willing, this year we will experience a surplus for our Solar," said Bahlil.
