JAKARTA - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa confirmed that Indonesia has not faced an energy emergency, even though a number of countries such as the Philippines and Bangladesh have felt the impact of the Middle East conflict.
To note, the Philippines has declared a national state of energy emergency, while Bangladesh has begun experiencing a fuel crisis.
According to Purbaya, the energy emergency is not about fiscal pressure or the State Budget (APBN), but about the disruption of energy supply.
However, he added, the government remains vigilant if the supply disruption occurs for a long time.
"The energy emergency is not in the state budget. The energy emergency is if the supply stops, that's what I'm afraid of. Not the price, (but) there is no supply, it still has a supply. So if you say it's an emergency, no, but we have to be ready to go forward," he said in a media briefing, quoted Thursday, March 26.
He added that the Indonesian state budget was still strong enough to withstand rising energy prices until the end of the year, so there were no plans to change the energy subsidy, but the final decision was still in the hands of President Prabowo Subianto.
"I will not change the state budget or existing subsidies to the point that the price may be very high. At this time, until the end of the year at the current price, we are still holding the state budget, depending on the decision of the leadership later, but I offer, it's safe," he said.
According to him, from the fiscal side, the State Budget (APBN) of Indonesia is still strong enough to withstand pressure due to rising energy prices.
"Later, if it rises (high), we will calculate again how much. So it's not automatic that it will suddenly be 100 US dollars, we calculate the average," he said.
