JAKARTA - The government has good news for the public through the policy of not raising electricity tariffs until June 2026. The goal is for residents to remain calm and comfortable while celebrating Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has decided that the electricity tariff for the second quarter (April-June) will not increase. This policy was taken as an effort by the government to maintain people's purchasing power.
"People don't need to worry, because the government has set the electricity tariff for the second quarter of 2026 to remain. This determination is made to maintain people's purchasing power ahead of Eid al-Fitr," said Acting Director General of Electricity of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Tri Winarno, writing Wednesday (18/3).
According to Tri Winarno, the government has determined that there will be no increase after calculating various macroeconomic parameters such as the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar, the Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and the Reference Coal Price (HBA).
However, the government still urges the public to use electricity wisely, especially for those who return home, not to forget to turn off the electrical equipment in the house.
"The government also appeals to the public to use electricity efficiently and wisely as part of a joint effort to support national energy security," he explained.
In accordance with the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 7 of 2024 concerning Electricity Tariff Provided by PT PLN (Persero), the evaluation of electricity tariff adjustments for 13 non-subsidized customer groups is carried out every three months based on changes in the realization of macroeconomic economic parameters.
For the determination of the tariff for the second quarter of 2026, the macroeconomic parameters used are the realization in the period from November 2025 to January 2026, namely a rate of Rp16,743.46 per US dollar, ICP of US$62.78 per barrel, inflation of 0.22 percent, and HBA of US$70 per ton according to the DMO coal policy.
Based on the calculation of these parameters, the electricity tariff formula has the potential to rise. However, in order to maintain the competitiveness of the industry, people's purchasing power, and the stability of the national economy in the midst of global conditions, the government decided that the electricity tariff would not change.
Likewise, for the 25 subsidized customer groups that also did not change. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources encourages PT PLN (Persero) to continue to maintain the reliability of electricity supply, improve the quality of service to customers, and optimize operational efficiency to ensure reliable and sustainable electricity supply.
On the other hand, the President Director of PT PLN (Persero), Darmawan Prasodjo, ensured that the supply of coal for the steam power plant (PLTU) was in a safe condition. The stock is able to maintain electricity operations for more than 19 days.
"Coal is on average over 19 days of operation. So, the current condition is safe," said Darmawan.
Darmawan also advised travelers to ensure that all electrical equipment at home is in a safe condition before being left behind. In addition to saving energy, this is also to avoid unwanted dangers.
"We also want to give a message to our brothers and sisters who are going home, don't forget to turn off the electrical equipment. If there is an electric stove, please unplug it, the iron is also unplugged, so that the homecoming can run safely," said Darmawan.
