PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), part of the Pertamina Gas Subholding, has initiated the Pusaka Artha Program by adopting oil and gas technology to help maintain and clean village water pipe infrastructure.

"The Pusaka Artha Pertagas program presents pigging technology, which is commonly used for cleaning gas distribution pipes, modified into an appropriate technology for village water infrastructure," said Pertagas Communication Relation & CSR Manager Imam Rismanto in a statement in Jakarta, Sunday.

He said the implementation of pigging technology was the company's commitment to always be present to provide solutions for rural communities.

"Pertagas brings technology that is commonly applied in the oil and gas industry as a solution for rural communities in cleaning efficient and sustainable water pipe networks," said Imam.

Imam added that as a company that has advantages in the integrated energy infrastructure network, Pertagas continues to transfer technology to the community.

As a pilot project, Pertagas has deployed its technicians in the implementation of pigging technology in Sidomulyo Village, Gunung Megang District, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra.

Pertagas has also provided an Introduction to Pigging System Innovation Workshop in Sidomulyo Village. The workshop was immediately carried out in the Pamsimas RT 05 area, so that the community could see the direct practice of applying the technology.

The technical trial, which was guided by Pertagas Technicians, proved a significant change. By utilizing the pump water pressure to push a special brush tool (pig), cleaning can now be done in-situ (without dismantling).

"The duration of the work is cut to 1-2 hours with only 1-2 personnel," he said.

Imam added that Pertagas is committed to continuing to adopt oil and gas technology to solve real problems faced by the community.

"We hope that this innovation, in addition to encouraging efficiency in maintenance, will also support the sustainability of more secure access to clean water for residents," said Imam.

This program is in line with the implementation of Pertagas' Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) aspects, especially in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This innovation contributes to SDG Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) through the maintenance of infrastructure quality, as well as SDG Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through technology transfer that increases the efficiency of rural resources.

Before the intervention of technology, continued Imam, the Village Pamsimas Manager of Sidomulyo faced strange inefficiencies.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Paguyuban Pamsimas RT 05, Santo, revealed that the manual method requires the team to lift all pump units and pipes to the surface.

The process takes up to 6-8 hours with 3-5 workers, so cleaning can only be done once a month. As a result, mud deposits often clog the flow.

"The difference is very noticeable. In the past, the pipe service felt heavy because it took a day of mutual cooperation. Now the process is much lighter and faster. Because it's easy, we can clean the pipes once a week, making the water that reaches the residents much smoother and clearer," said Santo.
