JAKARTA - The Indonesian government continues to strive to strengthen and deepen bilateral relations with a number of strategic partner countries as part of efforts to maintain national interests and encourage long-term economic development.
One of the strategic partnerships that is carried out comprehensively and continuously is Indonesia's cooperation with China, which covers various key sectors such as trade, investment, and industry.
In line with this commitment, the strengthening of Indonesia-China relations is also carried out through the active involvement of various stakeholders, including the China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (CCCI).
In the last two decades, CCCI has played a role as a liaison between the government and business actors, as well as a means to strengthen relations between the two countries.
The strengthening of this bilateral partnership was further emphasized through President Prabowo Subianto's state visit to the People's Republic of China (PRC) in November 2024, which was an important momentum in the history of relations between the two countries.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto explained that China with a population of around 1.4 billion is the second largest country in the world, while Indonesia with 285 million is in fourth place.
He added that both are members of the G20, with China occupying the world's second largest economic position with a GDP of 17.8 trillion US dollars, while Indonesia's GDP reaches 1.4 trillion US dollars.
"So, this is really an important milestone that the collaboration and cooperation between the two countries is open. This is a big market that offers opportunities for both companies and both countries," he said in his statement, quoted Sunday, January 11.
Airlangga said that in addition to being Indonesia's main trading partner with a trade value of 135.2 billion US dollars in 2024, the relationship between the two countries also showed strategic progress through the implementation of the Two Parks Twin Countries (TCTP) initiative.
He added that the TCTP initiative is a strategic cooperation framework aimed at strengthening industrial collaboration, encouraging investment, and integrating supply chains between Indonesia and China.
The TCTP Memorandum of Understanding, which was first launched in 2021, was updated in May 2025 through the signing by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Airlangga and Minister of Trade of the People's Republic of China Wang Wentao, and was witnessed directly by President Prabowo Subianto and Prime Minister Li Qiang. The update reflects the strong political commitment at the highest level of the two countries.
As part of strengthening TCTP cooperation, 16 project proposals have been signed between companies from Fujian and Indonesian partners with a total investment value of IDR 36.4 trillion or approximately US $ 2.19 billion.
The projects cover various strategic sectors, including base metals, meat and seafood processing, textiles, tea, furniture, drone technology, batteries, and artificial intelligence.
"In the future, Indonesia welcomes deeper collaboration in the fields of infrastructure, logistics, downstream industries, manufacturing, renewable energy, digital economy, AI, quantum computing, food security, health, and human resource development," explained Airlangga.
Regarding investment, the Indonesian Government is also continuing to work to increase the attractiveness of the investment climate through regulatory reforms, infrastructure development, and policy consistency.
Currently, the government has formed a special task force to accelerate the implementation of national strategic programs to support the acceleration of investment realization.
