One Worker Dies in IMIP Industrial Area

JAKARTA - Secretary of Commission III of the East Nusa Tenggara DPRD, Muhammad Safri, reported that there was another work accident at the PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP).

Through his social media, Safri said that a worker named Ali Imran was reported dead after being hit by heavy iron in the construction area of the industrial area. This tragic incident occurred during the process of moving heavy materials.

He assessed that this incident was a clear evidence of the negligence of PT IMIP as the manager of the area in ensuring Occupational Safety and Health (K3) for its employees.

"Again, and again, workers' lives are floating in IMIP. This incident adds to the series of bad records of K3 management in the area," said Safri through his social media page, quoted on Monday, December 15.

Safri assessed that the IMIP area has now changed its function. A place that should have been a safe and friendly space to make a living has now turned into a death field for workers who are fighting for their lives.

"This is not a disaster, but a clear proof that the lives of workers seem to have no value in the eyes of PT IMIP management," he said.

Safri also asked the government to show firmness and concrete steps to solve the recurring labor safety problems at IMIP.

Safri also urged PT IMIP to take full responsibility for the incident that killed Ali Imran.

Safri emphasized that handling this case should not stop at the provision of compensation alone. There must be a deterrent effect for PT IMIP so that the incident does not recur.
