JAKARTA - Stunting is still a serious nutritional problem in Indonesia, especially in rural areas that face challenges in accessing nutritious food and lack of family nutrition knowledge. This condition is exacerbated by low protein intake in toddlers, unbalanced snack consumption patterns, and feeding practices that are not optimal at the household level.
In response to this, PERURI again continues its commitment to supporting the acceleration of stunting reduction through the High Protein Supplementary Food Program for Stunting Toddlers, a sustainable initiative that has been part of the PERURI Social & Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program for the past three years. This program is designed to strengthen specific and sensitive nutritional interventions for toddlers at risk of stunting while ensuring the sustainability of positive impacts at the village level.
In its implementation, this PERURI program is strengthened through strategic collaboration with the Nutrition Study Program of Singaperbangsa Karawang University (Unsika), the Parungmulya Village Government, and the Ciampel Health Center. This multi-party synergy entered its third year of implementation and was re-inaugurated on Thursday, December 11 at the Parungmulya Village Office, Ciampel District, Karawang Regency.
Parungmulya Village is one of the priority areas for accelerating the handling of stunting in Karawang Regency, considering that the results of field monitoring show that there are still toddlers with nutritional conditions that require special attention. Stunting not only has an impact on physical growth, but also affects cognitive development, learning ability, long-term productivity, and increases the risk of degenerative diseases in the future.
PERURI, together with village officials, universities (Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang), and local government agencies such as the Health Office, Puskesmas, and BKKBN, are working to prevent unhealthy growth in toddlers through a series of programs. These programs include socialization and preliminary studies, screening of health status and provision of medicine, development and training of food menus, nutritional counseling, intervention, monitoring and evaluation, and dissemination of information.
A total of 29 toddlers received benefits from this High Protein Snack Program. The majority of the toddlers come from families with fathers who work as laborers, drivers, motorcyclists, or servants, and mothers who are housewives. Most of their parents only completed education up to the Junior High and High School levels.
Dawam H, as the Responsible for Strategic Corporate Branding and TJSL PERURI, said that the food distributed in this program was not just a snack, but a nutritional intervention that had been measured precisely with experts from UNSIKA.
"Therefore, we ask for the full commitment of parents so that this assistance is absorbed as much as possible by the body of toddlers, so that the impact of increasing their nutrition can be seen clearly," said Dawam.
By providing proper education and support as well as providing access to nutritious food, this program is expected to have a significant impact in efforts to overcome stunting in Parangmulya Village, creating a healthier and stronger generation in the future. The sustainability of this program depends heavily on long-term commitment and collaborative support, which will ensure optimal reduction of stunting prevalence and provide a healthier future for future generations.
