Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadive revealed that the development of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based application belonging to the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) named Trade AI has not yet used a special budget from the State Budget.

"The AI trading software is developed internally. So there has been no investment that is too large until now, we use sources that, what sources, we use existing resources, existing hardware, existing software, so I will pay the most usual salary," said Purbaya at Seal Point Terminal 3 Tanjung Priok Port Container, Friday, December 12.

Even so, Purbaya emphasized that the government plans to allocate an investment of around Rp45 billion to support further development of the system in order to increase the effectiveness of customs supervision and state revenues.

"In the future, for further development, in order to be more sophisticated throughout Indonesia, we estimate that an investment of around Rp45 billion is needed to develop the IT system," he said.

Purbaya explained that Trade AI was designed to improve the accuracy of import analysis and prevent transaction value manipulation.

He added that this technology is aimed at detecting potential under-invoiting, over-invoiting, and trading-based money laundering practices that can reduce state revenues.

In the development process, Trade AI is equipped with customs value analysis capabilities, classification of goods, document inspection, verification of the origin of goods, and preparation of importer risk profile recommendations.

Meanwhile, all of these features will later be connected to the CEISA 4.0 system to strengthen coordination and decision-making in all surveillance lines.

He also said that this system had been tested at around 145 Goods Import Notifications (PIB) in Tanjung Priok, and managed to identify indications of customs inequality which then resulted in additional receipts of around Rp1.2 billion.

"Yesterday we checked 145 PIBs from there, we checked it quickly, it could be added around if the AI is large, maybe more than a billion. But when we try to check again with the field, all kinds of things we get an additional Rp1.2 billion. So that's not bad," he explained.

"Kalau semakin lama, semakin canggih, harusnya semakin besar keuntungannya. Sekarang terlalu dini untuk bilang berapa peluang yang sebetulnya ada dari pengembangan AI ini. Tapi hasilnya sudah clear. Dari segitu saya dapat Rp1 miliar dengan mudah kira-kira," imbuhnya.

According to Purbaya, although the preliminary results are not too large, these findings prove that Trade AI has promising potential.

"At least the important thing is that the first run has produced a clear income like that, so yes, it seems that this project will benefit me in the future," he said.

He added that it was too early to estimate the maximum potential of the AI development. However, preliminary results have provided a positive picture.

"If it gets longer, more sophisticated, the benefits should be greater. Now it's too early to say what opportunities actually exist from the development of this AI. But the results are clear. From that, I got Rp1 billion easily," he added.
