JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) revealed that private vehicles, especially four-wheelers, are the choice of the community to travel during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) holidays.
Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi said that based on a survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency of the Ministry of Transportation, 51.12 million people would travel by private car.
"The largest choice of mode of transportation is a private car of 42.78 percent or around 51.12 million," he said at a media briefing, in Jakarta, Friday, December 5.
In addition to cars, said Dudy, two-wheeled vehicles are also the most chosen by the public to mobilize on the Nataru holiday. Furthermore, the bus occupies the third position of the most chosen vehicle.
"Furthermore, followed by 18.41 percent of motorcycles. Then use an 8.17 percent bus. Rental cars, travel cars, planes by 3.57 percent or 4.27 million, long-distance trains 3.29 percent or 3.94 million. Then, ferry boats 3.14 percent or 3.75 million and ships 2.20 percent or about 2.62 million," said Dudy.
Dudy revealed that private vehicles, both four-wheeled and two-wheeled, dominated the Nataru transportation period. He said this was because land transportation routes, especially in Java, were quite good.
"So there are quite a lot of toll roads available, so many of our people then choose to use private vehicles," he said.
In addition, according to Dudy, the use of private vehicles, both cars and motorbikes, has also been chosen by the public to facilitate mobility at their destination.
People prefer to bring motorized vehicles so that it is easy to mobilize at their destination. So if they want to travel to tourist attractions, they prefer to use their own vehicles," said Dudy.
According to Dudy, the difficulty of public transportation at tourist destinations is also the reason people choose to use private vehicles.
"As we all know, maybe during holidays it is public and at destinations it is rather difficult to limit, so they choose to use private vehicles," he said.
