The Ministry of Public Works (PU) ensures that national road access connecting Langkat Regency in North Sumatra and Aceh Tamiang Regency has reopened.
The route was previously cut off due to floods and landslides that hit parts of Aceh and North Sumatra in the past week.
PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said that opening road access is the government's top priority after the disaster. This is necessary to ensure logistical assistance, evacuation equipment and basic needs of affected residents can enter without obstacles.
"In line with President Prabowo Subianto's direction, the first priority is to open road access. All technical units are moving with local governments to accelerate the recovery of connectivity," said Dody, quoted from a written statement, Thursday, December 4.
Head of the North Sumatra National Road Implementation Center (BBPJN) Hardy Pangihutan Siahaan said the condition of the national road to Aceh is now gradually recovering. Large logistics vehicles can already pass, including aid trucks sent from Medan.
According to Hardy, the 73 kilometer Medan's Pangkalan Brandan Toll Road has operated normally in two directions and is the most recommended route for the distribution of aid and community mobility.
"National roads from Pangkalan Brandan to Aceh can still be passed. National toll roads and routes are in safe condition," he said.
North Sumatra BBPJN is still cleaning flood materials and on several national roads to improve the safety of road users.
