PT PLN (Persero) affirms its readiness and commitment to support the waste power plant (PLTSa) ecosystem in Indonesia as an offtaker of waste-to-energy projects initiated by the government and developers.

Managing Director of the Indonesian Archipelago Investment, Stefanus Ade Hadiwidjaja, said that the waste-to-energy project is a great opportunity for Indonesia to answer environmental challenges as well as provide sustainable clean energy.

Indonesia has the opportunity to maintain life through waste-to-energy. However, no one can do it alone. This project is only possible if there is collaboration between the central government, local governments, the business world, and the community," said Stefanus, Wednesday, November 26.

He added that in developing the PLTSa ecosystem, Danantara has assigned PLN as the power offtaker produced by the plant. In its implementation, Danantara coordinates with PLN while acting as an orchestrator.

"Without a systemic, collaborative, and measurable solution, there will be no sustainability of future economic life," said Stefanus.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo emphasized that PLN is ready to carry out its role as an offtaker to ensure that all PLTSa projects can run and be integrated with the national electricity system.

PLN fully supports government policies in accelerating PLTSa development. Our role is to ensure network readiness, provide certainty of offtake, and open space for cooperation with developers," he said.

Darmawan explained that PLN also continues to strengthen the electricity system in priority areas for the development of PLTSa. Including, preparing reliable transmission and distribution infrastructure so that every PLTSa can be immediately connected and entered the system.

"This integration is important to maintain the stability of electricity supply while ensuring the optimal use of energy from waste," he explained.

Meanwhile, PLN's New Renewable Executive Vice President, Daniel KF Tampubolon, emphasized that PLTSa development has become an important part of national energy planning.

"In the 2025-2034 RUPTL which we launched with the government in May 2025, we have included waste-to-energy as one of the pillars of developing new and renewable energy, especially in the bioenergy category. This means that PLTSa is completely alignment with the roadmap for the national energy transition," said Daniel.

Daniel explained that the development of PLTSa requires a mature investment scheme and minimal risk.

In addition, the challenges that must be faced to make the PLTSa project a success include the application of the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Reccycle (3R), so that the composition of waste that becomes an energy source can be more optimal.

We see a lot of lessons learned from previous projects. Because 3R is not yet fully ready, investment de-risking efforts are needed. PLN as the extension of the state takes an important role to answer this need," concluded Daniel.
