JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is preparing a new policy regarding distribution permits for sports products. This step is to strengthen the domestic sports industry as well as ensure national athlete equipment standards.

The policy began with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Tuesday, November 25.

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the policy aims to ensure that products circulating in Indonesia come from domestic industry players and meet quality and safety standards.

"This collaboration is a strategic step to strengthen the structure of the domestic sports industry, starting from sports equipment, accessories to footwear," Agus said in a written statement, quoted Wednesday, November 26.

The Ministry of Industry will take care of the standardization aspect, while the Ministry of Youth and Sports will encourage the utilization of these equipment among athletes and coaches. The hope is that the support of good equipment, from appraisal to shoes, will be able to improve the athlete's performance when competing.
