JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman ensured that the construction of an integrated chicken farm project run by the government would not disturb small farmers.

In this new ecosystem, continued Amran, State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) that process these farms will move in the upstream sector, starting from the grand parent stock, to the final stock.
While downstream, Amran said, small breeders remain the main actors. With this system, it is hoped that the price of feed and DOC (Day Old Chick) can be more stable, so that small farmers are no longer burdened with price fluctuations.
"Then everything downstream is small farmers. This guarantees food for small farmers is stable, ensuring DOC is stable," he said.
Amran said, so far the price of chicken and eggs at the farmer level is unstable. Sometimes the price is high, but suddenly it drops, causing the farmers to lose money.
So far (the price) has gone up and down. It's a pity for small farms. Sometimes the price falls for Rp. 18,000, right. So this (the livestock built by the government) will later control prices, benefit small farms. Then it also doesn't burden consumers," he said.
Separately, BPI Danantara's Chief Operating Officer (COO), Dony Oskaria, said that the construction of this national chicken farm is still in the joint study stage with the government.
Dony added that its implementation still refers to the joint decree (SKB) from the government.
Even so, he explained, the purpose of this project is for national food security.
"This will also be studied later, of course, there will also be a SKB that will be issued by the minister for assignments, how then do we build this, especially for food security, yes and especially with MBG. The Danantara, of course, as a corporation, will study well and will carry out this in accordance with the good corporate situation," said Dony.
