Jab Debateek Commuter Line Users Predicted To Reach 417 Million People In 2029

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI noted that the growth of Jabodetabek Commuter Line customers shows a positive trend from year to year. In fact, it is projected to increase from 331.8 million this year to 417 million in 2029.

KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba said in total, all services managed by KAI Commuter including Jabodetabek, Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Local Trains and Commuter Line areas of Jakarta, Greater Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya are estimated to increase from 381.9 million customers in 2025 to around 490 million subscribers in 2029.

"The customer growth projection confirms that the public will increasingly choose rail-based transportation modes as the main choice," he said in an official statement, Wednesday, November 5.

Therefore, said Anne, the addition of new facilities is very necessary and will also strengthen capacity so that it can increase user comfort.

"Also it will increase the travel frequency, and increase comfort because there is no need to jostle, especially during busy work and return from work," said Anne.

With government support, KAI will prepare further steps including a study of technical needs, procurement strategies, and operational readiness so that the procurement of 30 new series can be realized immediately.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto expressed his full support for the plan of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) to add 30 new KRL series.

This support was conveyed by the President during the inauguration of Tanah Abang Baru Station, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, November 4 as part of the government's commitment to strengthen public transportation services that are efficient and affordable for the community.

Prabowo said that KAI's initial submission of Rp4.8 trillion for the procurement of 30 new KRL series had been approved and would even be increased to Rp5 trillion.

"He (Director of KAI) proposed a total of IDR 4.8 trillion, I agreed. No, not IDR 4.8 trillion, I agree with IDR 5 trillion. For many people, I don't hesitate. Our money is saving for the benefit of the people above all interests," said Prabowo.
