JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto today inaugurated Tanah Abang Baru Station, marking a new chapter of modernizing the urban public transportation system in Jakarta. This project was carried out by PT PP (Persero) Tbk (PTPP) as the main contractor with the support of the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, and became one of the national strategic projects to support intermodal connectivity in the Jabodetabek area.
In his remarks, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of improving public transportation infrastructure to support the efficient and humane mobility of urban communities. He said the national railway system serves around 486 million passengers per year, so that improving comfort, capacity and reliability of services is the government's main focus in terms of food, energy and water.
The train and all mass transportation (mass transit system) are part of the life of a very strategic and vital modern society. The Indonesian train and all of its systems carry 486 million per year; our train system will be the focus of the government program that I lead," said President Prabowo at the inauguration ceremony, Tuesday, November 4.
The Tanah Abang Phase I Station Improvement Project (Building and Rel) has a contract value of IDR 309 billion (including VAT). In this project, PTPP built two new rail lines, widened passenger platforms, and increased supporting facilities such as waiting areas, security systems, and pedestrian circulation. As a result, service capacity doubled, from around 150,000 to 300,000 passengers per day.
Currently, Tanah Abang Station serves an average of 36,000 passengers in and out and more than 100,000 transit passengers every day. With the completion of this first stage, congestion during peak hours is expected to be decomposed, as well as strengthen the integration of mass transportation such as KRL, LRT, MRT, TransJakarta, and other modes of feeder.
PTPP's Corporate Secretary, Joko Raharjo, expressed his pride for PTPP's contribution to projects that have a big social impact on urban communities.
"As a national construction company, PTPP is proud to be able to contribute directly to the modernization of Indonesia's public transportation. The construction of Tanah Abang Baru Station is a tangible manifestation of the role of SOEs in presenting more efficient, inclusive, and sustainable future mobility," said Joko.
This project is part of the government's strategic steps in strengthening rail-based public transportation systems, as well as supporting the development of the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) area which is a priority for modern urban development. Station facilities that are now more modern, safe, user-friendly, and high-capacity are a symbol of the transformation of the national railway system towards an era of smart and green urban connectivity.
