JAKARTA - The Investment Management Agency (BPI) Daya Anagata Nusantara (DANTara) Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a SK Plasma Co.Ltd.

The MOU that has been signed aims to strengthen health resilience through reducing dependence on imports and increasing the independence of health services in Indonesia.

Danantara Indonesia Chief Investment Officer Pandu Sjahrir said, Danantara Indonesia has made the health sector one of eight priority sectors and plans to invest in blood plasma facilities and health infrastructure.

"This collaboration is expected to strengthen Indonesia's steps towards the independence of plasma-derived drugs and the creation of high-capacity (highly skilled) employment opportunities," he said in his statement, quoted on Sunday, November 2.

Meanwhile, SK Plasma is one of the global leaders in the drug product of plasma derivatives (PODP), producing therapy important for rare diseases and critical conditions. And the Plasma SK also has a commitment to facilitate knowledge transfer through training opportunities for its employees in Korea.

PODP is medicines made from human plasma through a process called fraction. This therapy plays an important role in treating various serious, even deadly diseases, where many patients do not have effective alternative treatment.

Previously, Indonesia imported the entire need for PODP, so that its supply and access were exposed to external risks. To overcome this, Danantara Indonesia and SK Plasma are trying to establish and improve the manufacturing and local production capabilities of PODP, starting with facilities in Karawang, West Jakarta which will be completed in 2026.

Pandu said one of Danantara's investment strategies focuses on strengthening national resilience by reducing dependence on imports, especially in key sectors such as health services.

He added that through a collaboration between the technical expertise of the Plasma SK and investment from Danantara Indonesia, his party seeks to improve the quality of patient care and contribute to saving lives through innovative and global standard therapy.

"In line with various other investment initiatives that are being carried out, the signing of the MoU is an important milestone in building a healthier and more resilient Indonesia," he explained.

He said Danantara Indonesia believes that a strong and independent health system will encourage national economic growth, because investment in this sector is able to increase productivity while reducing health costs for millions of people.

In the next year, Pandu said that his party will focus on three main areas in the health sector, namely health services, manufacturing, and innovation.

CEO of SK Plasma Kim Seung-joo said that collaboration with Danantara Indonesia is an honor for companies to strengthen the health sector in Indonesia.

"Through our capability in producing plasma-based medicinal products (PODP), we will work closely with countries that require the localization of essential drugs to contribute to improving health infrastructure around the world," he said.

Meanwhile, SK Plasma through PT SKPlasma Core Indonesia is building a plasma fractionation facility that will allow Indonesia to locally produce plasma derivative drug products (PODP), reduce Indonesia's dependence on imports, as well as encourage technology transfer and labor development.

After the signing, the two parties plan to explore various investment opportunities and will announce more details in due course, in accordance with applicable legal provisions and due diligence results.
