The Price Of Red Chili In West Aceh Reaches IDR 90,000 Per Kg

MEULABOH - The price of red chili kitchen spices sold by traders at the Meulaboh Business Market Complex, West Aceh Regency, reached IDR 85,000 to IDR 90,000 per kilogram (kg) from previously at the selling price of IDR 30,000 per kg.

"The price of red chili is rising because of the small stock of chili, while consumer demand is increasing," said a trader at the Meulaboh Business Development Market Complex, West Aceh Kevin ANTARA, Sunday, October 12.

According to him, the increase in the selling price of red chilies has actually occurred since the last two weeks, because the supply from collector agents to traders has decreased.

Head of the West Aceh District Food Service, Kamarlisnur, said the increase in the selling price of red chilies and cayenne pepper in West Aceh Regency occurred due to delays in supply from the main producer area today in North Sumatra Province.

"The delay in chili supply is due to reduced production and the increasing need for other provinces," said Kamarlis.

In addition, the limited supply of chilies in West Aceh is due to the Central Aceh Regency chili producer, currently not entering the harvest period.

Based on information from a large agent in Takengon, Central Aceh Regency, farmers are starting to harvest chilies estimated in mid-October 2025 and a large harvest is expected in early November.

In addition to red chilies, the selling price of cayenne pepper was also observed to have increased the selling price at IDR 45,000 per kg.

Two weeks ago, the price of the kitchen spice commodity was still sold at IDR 20,000 to IDR 25,000 per kg.

However, the selling price of shallots has decreased by a price of Rp. 32,000 per kg from the previous price of Rp. 45,000 per kg, and the selling price of garlic has also decreased at a price of Rp. 35,000 per kg from the previous selling price of Rp. 40,000 per kg.

The increase in the selling price of basic commodities also occurred at the price of chicken eggs which were sold at a price of IDR 55,000 per table containing 30 pills, last week the selling price of eggs was at IDR 50,000 per board.

The increase in the selling price of eggs was due to low supply and large demand due to the commemoration season of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday, the religious tradition in Aceh which could last 3-4 months.
