The Flow Of Vehicles Has Not Been Significant, Minister of Transportation Predicts Travelers Postpone Returning Home

JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said there has been no significant movement of vehicles on the mainline of travelers until the end of last week. In his monitoring through the helicopter in the traffic flow of the Cikopo to Palimanan lanes, it appears that the situation is still in normal condition.

"In general, we expect people to still delay their return from their hometowns. Quantitatively, the amount of movement on the backflow is still below 60 percent than expected", he said as quoted from the official website, Monday, May 17.

The Minister of Transportation added that it has coordinated with the Traffic Corps Police in monitoring the flow of traffic on the highway because it is estimated that there are still many people who have not returned.

He also appealed to people who will travel in private vehicles to conduct health tests independently, so that there is no need to take random tests to avoid buildup at health check posts.

"It is not to trouble our traveling brothers and sisters. But this is an effort by the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia after the Eid al-Fitr period", he said

For information, the Ministry of Transportation established Balonggandu Post as one of the places where random antigen rapid test health checks are conducted for motorcyclists from the east who are preparing to enter the Jabodetabek area.

Starting May 15, 2021, the Government is tightening the backflow of users of four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles from West Java, Central Java, East Java by conducting health checks using rapid antigens randomly.

This sealing point and health test checkpoint are intended to ensure road users do not bring the virus back. Three points are tightened around Karawang precisely at the Balonggandu Weigh Bridge, Tegal Gubug Susukan Post, and Indramayu area towards Jatibarang.

Also present in the traffic inspection in the Pantura area was the Minister of Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, Director General of Land Transportation Budi Setyadi, and Karawang Regent Cellica Nurachdiana.
